How long to stay in Playa del Carmen?
If you want to get to know Playa del Carmen, a couple of days will be enough. The city is not very big, and you can visit its main attractions in a short time. On the other hand, if you are thinking of using Playa del Carmen as a base to visit other places in the Riviera Maya, I recommend staying at least a week.
You will have time to explore the city, enjoy its beaches, visit the archaeological ruins, go to Cozumel and maybe also to one of the nearby parks or cenotes. Or take a Shuttle from Cancun to Tulum and visit the archaeological site.
How to get to Playa del Carmen?
The closest airport to Playa del Carmen is Cancun International Airport, and there are different ways to get to Playa del Carmen. The best option is through private Transportation from Cancun to Playa del Carmen that will avoid long lines and travel in many people’s companies; traveling with valuable items is the safest option.
Where to stay in Playa del Carmen with little money?
In Playa del Carmen, you will find several hotels where you can stay and live a more “All-inclusive” experience. However, you can also find cheaper options such as hostels or Airbnb. To rent an Airbnb, I recommend you look for them months in advance since the high season availability is low.
How to get around the city?
Playa del Carmen is not very big, so you will be able to get around the tourist area on foot without any problem.
You will only need transportation if you want to travel to nearby places, such as cenotes, Mayan ruins, towns, or other sites. For most of these cases, you can use the white vans of Playa Express. What to do in Playa del Carmen?
Playa del Carmen is a destination that allows you to enjoy all kinds of ecotourism activities and shopping. For this reason, I will list some of the activities you can do.
- Visit Los Fundadores Park
Los Fundadores Park is the epicenter of Playa del Carmen. Around this square, you will find many shops and tourist services.
In this square, you will find the famous arch of Playa del Carmen or Portal Maya.
It was built in 2012 to represent the Mayan calendar’s end and the beginning of a new era.
In addition to this spectacular arch, in Founders Park, you can also see several interesting street shows. It is common to see groups performing Mayan dances (complete with costumes) and the traditional Voladores de Papantla.
- Enjoying the beaches
Visiting the beaches that this destination offers is one of the essential attractions during your visit. You will have at your disposal the possibility of swimming in the public beaches that will undoubtedly provide a day full of sun and tranquility accompanied if a drink accompanies you.
- Strolling along Fifth Avenue
The famous Quinta Avenida is home to much of Playa del Carmen’s tourist trade.
On this avenue, which is several blocks long, you will find various handicraft and souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, tour agencies, Cuban cigar vendors, and all the tourist services you can imagine.
- Visit the nearby cenotes.
Playa del Carmen has the advantage of having several cenotes in its surroundings, which can be visited at a low cost and using public transportation. Three cenotes you can visit near Playa del Carmen are: Cenote Azul, Cenote Jardín del Edén and Cenote Cristalino.
